Mary Ellen came with here parents to Snowflake, Manitoba in 1880. From there she came to Langdon, and later homesteaded in what is now Minot twp. After they married, they built a sod house and barn on his homestead. The house was 12 ft by 14 ft in size. Helga, her daughter, hads told her children of remembering the fox standing on the roof of the sod house.
Mary married William J. Quinnell on 4 Nov 1896 in Bathgate, North Dakota. (William J. Quinnell was born on 27 Feb 1872 in Canada.)
