James is listed as living with his mother and step father at Stephen twp., Huron Co. Ontario in the 1851 census.

by 1875 the Blakes and Bissets moved westward into Manitoba, setteling in the place that James Blake is credited with naming himself - "Snowflake", near the North Dakota Manitoba border.

In the Mid-1890's James and family moved to the Wales and Hannah vicinities of CavalierCo., North Dakota. James and Susan spent their finaldays at Hannah.

James Blake came to Exeter, Ontario from Devonshire, England with hisparents.in 1840

When Jim D'Vignon came home frome Manitoba telling of the wonderful prairie land just opened up for homesteads, he made the journey at once with Mr. D'Vignon and Same Oke to seek a homestead for his family of two sons and two daughters. Reaching the desired location late in October, they chose homesteads between the Pembina hills and the U.S. Border in township 1, Range 9, west of the first meridian.

In 1898 James sold his farm and moved into Manitou. However, his sonsliked the farm so they moved into N. Dakota to a farm not far from Wales

!OBIT:
James Henry Blake quietly passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs Wm. Quinell on Monday October 9th at 12pm. Mr. Blake had been ill for about a month and confined to his bed for most of the time.
Mr Blake was born at Plymouth England, Mar 27 1839 and lived there until two years of age, then moved to Kingston, Canada, and remained there for some time. Thinking of the wild and wooly west he moved to western Canada. Then the country was practically new. He engaged in stockraising of which he was very successful. He was mail carrier for towyears in Manitoba.
He with his wife and fimily, cam to this part of the country about 22years ago and was one of the early settlers, having lived on a homestead west of Wales. After Mr. and Mrs. Blake sold this farm they decided to move to Wales. Four years ago his wife died and since he has made his home with the children which are as follows.:
Mrs Wm. Quinell and Percy Blake of Wales; Mrs Ike Hanford of Snowflake Man.; Wesley Blake of Kelly Springs Sask.; and Fred Blake of Antilope, Mont.
The funeral services were held at the Quinnell home at 11 am Wednesday conducted by Rev A. E. Andrews and the Wales Quartette rendered appropriate music.
