! Born in 1735. Jonathans's father and mother may have been Joseph and Sarah Jacobs. Jonathan was married ca 1756-7, probably in New Marlborough, MA There is nothing in the records of New Marlborough concerning Jonathan except the birth of his children. Town marriage records begin in 1766. New Marlborough MA and nearby Caanan Ct. were settled by a large group from Plainfield, CT. A Part of New Marlborough was given to Tryingham at the formation of that town. In Tryingham Cemetary is buried Joseph Allen who died 3 Aug 1776 and his wife Sarah Allen who died 13 Feb 1751. Joseph And Sarah came from Plainfield where there is a record of a son, Rufus born 13 April 1749 There is a strong suggestion that Rufus is the brother of Jonathan. Jonathan Allen was a private in Captain Caleb Wright's Co.; Col. John Fellow's Regt.; which marched April 21 1775 in response to the alarm of April 19 1775; service 1 mo. 3 days. (Vol. I,. p 167 Massachusettes Soldiers and Sailors in the Revolutionary War) Jonathan Allen, the husband and father of this family died before 1790. In the Census of that year Sarah is the head of the household. There areten cemetaries in New Marlborough Township. In 1939-1940 the DAR publisjed the Inscriptions then found in the township. There was no stone found forJonathan Allen. Sarah probably could not afford to pay for one.
