bullet  General Notes:

!Amos Allen entered the Revolutionary War at the age of 15, with his father
,Jonathan, who was killed. Amos was also in the war of 1812 and was Commodore
on his own ship which was seized by the British. He and his men were impounded
and because he refused to help drill British recruits he was banishedto the
Island of Jamaica and forced to work in the sugar mills with the natives. One
day a negro worker fell into a vat of boiling sugar and the overseer ignored
the accident and poured the mess into a hogshead to ship to America. Amos
marked the barrel and later asked a negro to help him and they rolledit into
the sea. Released at the end of the war(1815), he came to North Bergan, N.Y.
and lived with his daughter, Elizabeth, until his death. He receiveda pension
paid in gold and was able to help his family financially. He is buried at a
crossroads called Sheepskin Corners. He owned land in Salisbury, CT but while
he was in prison people built houses on it and he couldn't pay, so helost the
land.
