General Notes:
!BIOGRRAPHY: In the year of 1664 there was a Samuel Allen to whom King Charles II of England gave a land grant in America. This land was described as lying between Lake Champlain and Lake George and the Atlantic Ocean. It included what what is now known as Vermont. A tract was also granted to Mason. The Tracts were supposed to run "West from the Atlantic Ocean towards the setting sum". Both parties claimed the same tract and it was in litigation in the English courts for years, and was finally settled by giving Mason the portion east of the Connecticut river, and Allen the western part. So the Allens populated western Connecticut, Massachusettes and Vermont. Innumerable Allens settled there, among them Ethan Allen of Revolutionary fame, though no close relationship to our family of Allens has ever been established. But we lay claim to an "Officer" Allen, of the French and Indian war, possibly a descendant of the Samuel mentioned above. There is no redcord of "Officer" Allens' first name. The above informatoin was taken from the Keyt Family Album.
