Jankowski is the female spelling of Jankowska. The polish version of Sophie is Zosia. Sophie came to America with her father, Peter, around 1901 possibly through Conneticut. They made their home in Chicopea, MA. Peter Jankowskis' wife, Anne had died previously and he had taken on a mistress (possibly proffesional) who lived at their boarding house. Peter Jankowski died around 1904 and Sophie was raised by her Aunt Rose (possibly Peters' sister?). Peters mistress had wanted to raise Sophie but Aunt Rose won out. Aunt Rose had abused Sophie Jankowski. She would ration very little bread for her to eat and would often lock her up in the attic alone. Sophie hadworked at a textile factory in Chicopee MA where she first met Stanley Klatka. Stanley invited Sophie to Columbus, Ohio to possibly get married and they did. !PERSONAL: First hand information from Stella (Klatka) Butler.\
According to the 1930 Census, Sophie was Naturalized in 1901
