Earl grew up in the home of his brother, Fred, in Manchester, Iowa. He went toa Cechanis's school in Kansas City. He went to South Dakotawhere he did some ranch work and wheat harvests. He boufht a farm inSeneca, south Dakota, but lost it during the depression. He farmed His wifes farm near Jacksonville, Ill. for the rest of his life. He loved singing in church or with a barbershop quartet. He had a great tenor voice. He was also a great checker player. He played horseshoes, loved framing, broke horses, operated threashing machine.
