General Notes:
!OBITUARY: Republican Journal (Argyle Atlas): Late Saturday afternoon the cry went through the town like wildfire that a boy had been drowned in the river near the lower railroad bridge. A crowd rushed to the river and it was found to be only true. A number of young lads were in swimming when Mark Jacobs, a so of Stephen Jacobs, said he could swim across the river, and made the attempt. The other boys, suppsing that he could perform the feat paid no more attention to him until they saw him gong under in mid-stream. They then tried to save him and Angus DeVoe succeeded in catching him by the hand as he was going under the last time and came near being drawn down himself. He lost his hold just as he was drawn down until the water reached above his chin. Mark did not rise to the surface again and the alarm was given. Some larger boys and young men were soon there and began diving for him and Victor Rossingsoon located the lifeless body and brought it to the shore. Medical aid had reached the place and all that human skill could do was done to resuscitate him, but to no avail.
Mark was born in the Town of Dayette and was aged 13 years 7 months and 12 days. The funeral was held in St. Josephs' Church on Tuesday, conducted by Father McNulty.
