bullet  General Notes:

Richard and Jane were living with their family at Enniskillen twp, Lambton Co., Ontario by the time of the 1871 Census. They made their living as farmers.

by 1875 the Blakes and Bissets moved westward into Manitoba, setteling in the place that James Blake is credited with naming himself - "Snowflake", near the North Dakota Manitoba border.

Richard and family moved to Pembina, Dakota Territory in the summer of 1877. they homesteaded in Tein twp. Kittson Co. Minnesota, and eventually moved to Drayton twp. Pembina North Dakota, where he farmed 180acres on the Red River.

After the death in 1893 of Jane, Richard and his daughter, Etta Blakemoved to Black Duck, Minn. where he was the Postmaster. He spent his final days near Warren MN.

Richard was known in the Valley as a "gruff" but fair and honest man.Newspaper accounts of the day attest to his ability for growing fruits and vegetables.
