!The Moffet family was among the earliest pioneers of Miami Co., Oh. They were
natives of Virginia, and while living there, John, age 14, and George, age 10,
were captured by the Shawnee Indians, and carried into what was then the
Northwest. Their father then moved to Kentucky and started negotiations with
the French traders to try to buy back his boys. In the meantime everyeffort
was make through military and other sources to recover his lost children. At
one time the Indians were encamped at Piqua, Ohio with George in their
possession. Gen. Clark with a military force came upon them by surprise and
destroyed the encampment but the Indians escaped with George. After about two
years the French traders succeeded in buying him and tool him to his father.
George3 grew up and married in Kentucky. His son James D. was born inWoodford
Co., Kentucky. The family moved to Piqua, Ohio and George limved there until
his death. He was the father of two sons and seven daughters. James D. married
Elizabeth Keyt, sister of Gideon, who came to Piqua, Ohio in 1819. She lived
only a short while and James later remarried Elvira Adams.

James married Elizabeth J. Keyt, daughter of James Keyt Jr. and Elizabeth Ross, on 1 Nov 1825. (Elizabeth J. Keyt was born on 4 Jul 1799 and died in Feb 1826.)
