"Newbury Pioneer Dies in 91st Year"
Harvey Ferris, oldest son of James and Mary Russell Ferris, was born in Newbury, June 26, 1833, and spent most of his life there until he moved to Chagrin Falls, where he died Thursday, April 3, aged 90 years,8 months and 7 days. He married twice; first to Maria Blair, and one child was born, Maria, now Mrs. Wm. McLaughlin, of Newbury. His secondmarriage was to Ellen Waite, and there were three children. Etta, living in Springfield, Mo., married Albert Ferris; Cora Bell, married Charlie Burnett, of Chagrin Falls, and Clarence died young.

Mr. Ferris and his brother served in the 171st O. V. I. during the war of the Rebellion. He was called "Old Reliable" in the Ferris family, and was the oldest Ferris ever known. He took great pleasure in helping others, and told the daughter with whom he lived, not to smother him with flowers, but to use the money, flowers would cost to help helpless people.

He leaves to mourn his loss his widow, 3 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. His pall-bearers wereWallace Wilber, Richard Burnett, Albert Waite, Robert Richardson, Wm.Hutching, Neal Silvernail.

Mr. Ferris and wife had spent the winters with their daughter in Missouri many years, and had just returned home about two weeks ago.

Harvey married Maria Blair on 11 Jan 1865. (Maria Blair was born on 12 Mar 1839 in Newbury, Geauga County, Ohio and died on 19 Mar 1867.)

Harvey next married Helen (Ellen) M. Wait, daughter of Samuel Wait Sr. and Rachael Judd, on 10 Jun 1868. (Helen (Ellen) M. Wait was born on 27 Aug 1837 and died on 17 Feb 1932 in Chagrin Falls, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio.)
