John Keyte Was Born 20 Oct 1755, in Essex County, New Jersey, died 13Feb 1834, buried Mill Creek Cemetery, Howard Township, Washington County, Indiana. Government marker placed by G.A.R. Married in 1782 firstto Elizabeth Carter and second to Sally Carnes in 1827. Children bornto Elizabeth Carter were Jesse; Hosea; Nathan; Louis [1790-1852] married Catherine Colglazier; Hiram; Icabod; Joel; Emily Jane Married Jacob Colglazier; Margaret Ann married John Gaskins, a soldier John Keyte
Served as a Private under Captain Hendrick Smock, Colonel Michael S. Taylor, Shot and Captured, Escaped, Enlisted, again in June 1778, under Burrows of New Jersey, Colonel David Truman. Shot Captured then carried to New York, held prisoner 8 months. Then He Escaped Enlisted again at Chaptauk, Maryland, in April 1781, and served 9 months under Captain John Cain, Colonel Henry Downs of Maryland Proof Pension claim S.32354; Steven's History of Washington County, Indiana.
